What a delightful surprise I recently received…a brand new children’s picture book written by Phyllis Davis and her grandchildren! A lovely, touching story that emphasizes how even young people can make an incredible difference in this world. Nancy Raia illustrated the book with soft water color and ink drawings that enhance every page. The book will appeal to children of all ages….including this 67 year old! Loved the quiet, positive, and determined attitude of the children who set off to save the birds that were going to lose their homes because the forest was due to be cut down. Davis never misses an opportunity to demonstrate the behaviors and qualities of good citizenship. Bravo!
- Randal Hopkins Wright, Coordinator, Read Aloud Baldwin
I love this book for so many reasons. Not only because the illustrations are alive and full of energy, but because the message of the story is powerful for both children and grandparents alike! Anyone who wants to encourage a love of nature and a love of grandparents should read this touching book!

Grandpa, Tom and I have to save the birds and we need you to help us.
Phyllis' career in Property Management spans over a 35 year period as an Owner of a Management Company, BHC Property Management, LLC, where the company provides a circle of services in management and training to the property management industry. In 2014, Phyllis became certified as a speaker and trainer in the area of Poverty and Poverty Behaviors.
Beginning in 2001, Phyllis worked with properties located in NY, DE, PA, TX, TN, AL and CA.
Early in her career she was the Americans with Disabilities Coordinator and a Training Coordinator for 23 properties throughout Mississippi and Alabama.
In 2014, a story evolved for a children's book that she believes might inspire youth to realize their voice does make a difference. She enjoyed her time with her own grandchildren, Cooper and Maggie, in developing this story.
Phyllis and her husband, Ranny, primarily live in Perdido Key, FL but also live in Oxford, MS. They have two children - Nikki Verlangieri and Justin Davis.
Justin and his wife, Susan, live in Tupelo, MS with their two children, Cooper and Maggie. Nikki and her husband, Jason, live in Oxford, MS with their two children, Giada and Anthony.
Illustrations for this book are by my friend Nancy McClurken Raia.
Nancy grew up in Pottstown Pennsylvania where she graduated from Pottsgrove High School. Nancy and I met many years ago when we became neighbors in Fairhope, Alabama, where Nancy and her family continue to live.
Nancy is a truly amazing person with her own life journey story.
Nancy is the Community Outreach Director at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. Through her gifted ability to inspire all ages, she educated the masses to create art and have a voice in telling their story and in capturing events and environmental issues.
Nancy is also artist of two of the Eastern Shore’s first Oyster Trail Sculptures. Nancy was voted 2015 State of Alabama Art Teacher of the Year and received State & Regional awards for her Environmental Awareness Responsibility.
You are very welcome.
Now, let's go catch some birds.
